The Food Guide Pyramid, Dietary
Guidelines for Americans, and The
Food Guide Pyramid for Young Children provide recommendations
for healthy eating and physical activity. Files can be downloaded and
used as posters or handouts in an educational setting.
For science-based, behavior-focused, and motivational messages about healthy
eating and physical activity based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans,
visit the website for the USDA Food and Nutrition Service Nutrition Education
and Promotion Campaign Eat
Smart. Play Hard. Posters, activity sheets for kids, parent brochures,
and ordering information for the Power Pac and Power Panther costume are
all available. "Eat Smart. Play Hard" campaign materials were
introduced in May 2002 to provide an opportunity to get the attention of
kids with a new look.
Dietary Guidelines for Americans, updated in 2000, include for the first
time a guideline related to food safety. To help teach food safety to children,
see the special
section for educators on the Partnership for Food Safety Education's
Fight BAC! website.
For a better understanding of the role of nutrition as a factor in overall
health, go to the Healthy
People 2010 Objectives. Incorporate Healthy People 2010 Objectives into
a comprehensive school health plan, develop interventions to meet the goals,
or use them as a guide for policy decisions.
Additional sites that will be an accurate source of nutrition information

the National Women's Health Center, is designed to encourage
girls ages 10-16 to choose healthy behaviors by providing health-related
information in an interactive, user-friendly format, and
- www.nutrition.gov, initiated
by the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General.
