Missouri County-level Study (CLS)
The 2007 Missouri County-level Study (CLS) was the largest special survey ever undertaken by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) with a total of 49,513 Missouri adults interviewed. The study was designed to produce county-level prevalence of behavioral risk factors, chronic diseases and conditions, and preventive practices among adults age 18 and older in Missouri.
The 2007 CLS replicated a 2003 study in which approximately 15,000 Missouri adults were interviewed. However, because of the lower number of responses in smaller counties, the earlier study combined data from two or three smaller counties.
The 2007 CLS was supported by a $1.46 million grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health* and $100,000 federal funds. The University of Missouri Health and Behavioral Risk Research Center conducted interviews in 107 smaller counties between February 2007 and February 2008, and in the 7 largest counties and the City of St. Louis between April 2007 and April 2008. Macro International conducted the primary data analysis and a special comparison analysis of the 2003 and 2007 studies.
